Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons light butter or margarine
- 1 cup whole wheat flour or all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- Cinnamon sugar (for coating)
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, a pinch of salt, and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in the flour until the mixture forms a dough ball. Allow it to cool slightly.
- Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix well until the dough is smooth and shiny. For an even mix, you can use a stand mixer.
- Spoon the dough into a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe small strips or bite-sized portions onto a parchment-lined tray. If you don’t have a piping bag, use a resealable plastic bag with a corner cut off.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the churro bites in the basket in a single layer, avoiding overlaps. Cook for 8-10 minutes until golden and crispy.
- In a shallow bowl, mix cinnamon with sugar. Once cooked, toss the warm churro bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Optionally, drizzle with caramel or chocolate for added flavor.
Notes
- Use fresh eggs for better binding and texture.
- Add a pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon to enhance flavor.
- Experiment with coatings like crushed nuts or shredded coconut for variety.
- Always preheat your air fryer for even cooking results.
