Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup of almond milk or skim milk
- 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
- Optional: a pinch of salt
- For coating: 1/4 cup of granulated sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). In a medium saucepan, combine almond milk, coconut oil, honey, vanilla extract, cinnamon, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a gentle simmer, then remove from heat and stir in the whole wheat flour until smooth. Let it cool slightly.
- Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe small strips or roll into bite-sized balls on parchment paper.
- Place the shaped dough into the air fryer basket, ensuring they aren’t overcrowded. Cook for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
- While still warm, toss the churro bites in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat evenly. Serve immediately or store for later.
Notes
- Ensure the dough is not too sticky for easy piping.
- Use a star-shaped piping tip for authentic churro texture.
- Adjust baking time based on your air fryer model — start with 8 minutes and monitor for doneness.
- Experiment with different sweeteners like agave syrup or stevia for guilt-free sweetness.
