Ingredients
Scale
- 3 large apples (preferably Granny Smith or Fuji), peeled and sliced
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Butter or non-stick spray for greasing
- Optional toppings: powdered sugar, caramel sauce, whipped cream
Instructions
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin, evenly-sized pieces. Toss the apple slices with 1 tablespoon of cinnamon and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Set aside.
- Whisk together the flour, remaining sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
- In another bowl, whisk the milk, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined to form a smooth batter.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
- Spread the sliced apples evenly in the baking dish. Pour the batter over the apples, ensuring they are fully covered.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Notes
- Use firm apples to prevent excess mushiness during baking.
- Adjust the cinnamon and nutmeg to your taste preferences.
- Make the batter thicker for a more bread-like consistency.
- Toppings like toasted nuts or vanilla ice cream enhance indulgence.
