Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 12 oz lo mein noodles or spaghetti
- 2 cups fresh broccoli florets
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce (optional but recommended for authentic flavor)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water (to thicken sauce)
- Optional: sliced green onions, sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Cook the lo mein noodles according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and toss with a little sesame oil to prevent sticking.
- Blanch the broccoli florets in boiling water for about 2 minutes until bright green and crisp-tender, transfer to an ice bath to stop cooking and preserve color.
- In a bowl, marinate the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon soy sauce and a touch of cornstarch for at least 10 minutes.
- Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until browned and just cooked through, about 2-3 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In the same wok, add another tablespoon of oil if needed, then stir-fry garlic and ginger until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
- Add the broccoli and cooked noodles to the wok. Return the beef to the pan. Pour in soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Toss to coat evenly.
- Add the cornstarch-water mixture to thicken the sauce slightly. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until heated through. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds if desired, then serve hot.
Notes
- Use thinly sliced beef for fast and even cooking.
- Keep all ingredients prepped beforehand for quick stir-frying.
- Adjust soy sauce and oyster sauce to taste for desired saltiness.
- Include fresh garlic and ginger for authentic flavor.
- Serve immediately garnished with green onions and sesame seeds for extra aroma.
