Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 8 oz sliced mushrooms
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Combine ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly and form into 4-6 oval patties about 1/2 inch thick.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and sauté until golden, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Sprinkle flour over mushrooms, stirring to combine, and cook for 1-2 minutes to eliminate raw flour taste.
- Pour in beef broth and add Dijon mustard if using. Stir until gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Return the patties to the skillet, spoon sauce over them, and simmer for 10 minutes to meld flavors.
Notes
- For a richer gravy, add a splash of heavy cream or dry white wine during simmering.
- Adjust salt and pepper to taste for maximum flavor.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice for a complete meal.
