Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Start by melting the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook until it turns a golden brown and releases nutty aromas. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together browned butter and dark brown sugar until well combined. Add eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, folding until just combined. Reserve half of the chocolate chips for topping and fold the rest into the batter.
- Spread about two-thirds of the batter into a prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the remaining chocolate chips on top. Pour the remaining batter and smooth. Add the rest of the chocolate chips and nuts if using.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs. Let cool before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Ensure the butter is browned properly to develop a rich, nutty flavor.
- Do not overmix once the dry ingredients are added to prevent tough cookies.
- Use high-quality chocolate chips for maximum flavor.
- Allow the dessert to cool slightly before cutting, as it will be soft out of the oven.
