Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Finely chop one medium onion and sauté in a tablespoon of oil over medium heat until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add ketchup, apple cider vinegar, molasses, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Once the sauce thickens and develops a tangy flavor, remove from heat and let it cool. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.
Notes
- Ensure the sauce is completely cooled before storing to maximize shelf life.
- Label containers with the preparation date.
- This sauce works great as a marinade—let proteins marinate for a few hours for best results.
- For a spicier kick, consider adding cayenne pepper.
- The sauce can last up to two weeks in the refrigerator or be frozen for longer storage.
