- 1-2 tablespoons milk or cream
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. Brown the butter in a skillet over medium heat until golden and fragrant, then set aside to cool slightly. In a large bowl, combine pumpkin puree, browned butter, vanilla, and remaining sugar.
- Add the yeast mixture to the pumpkin mixture along with the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled.
- Mix brown sugar and cinnamon for the filling. Roll the risen dough into a rectangle and spread softened butter over it. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the dough.
- Roll the dough tightly from the longer side to form a log. Slice into 9-12 pieces. Arrange the slices in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Optional: baste with extra browned butter for enhanced flavor.
- In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth. Drizzle over warm cinnamon rolls once out of the oven for a sweet finishing touch.
