Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups beef broth
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 2 celery stalks, sliced
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions
- Gather all ingredients before starting to streamline the cooking process.
- In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Add chopped onions, garlic, carrots, and celery. Cook until vegetables are tender and beef is thoroughly cooked. Season with thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Pour in beef broth and bring to a gentle simmer. Adjust seasoning if needed.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, milk, and melted butter. Stir until just combined; batter should be slightly sticky.
- Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling batter into the simmering beef and broth mixture. Cover with a lid and cook for about 15 minutes until dumplings are fluffy and cooked through. Do not lift the lid during cooking to keep in the steam.
- Serve hot, garnished with parsley or thyme. Pair with bread or salad for a complete meal.
Notes
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently on stovetop or microwave.
- Dumplings may lose fluffiness upon reheating but will retain flavor. For longer storage, freeze in individual portions.
