Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups mixed vegetables (frozen peas, carrots, corn)
- 1 tbsp tomato paste or ketchup
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 cups mashed potatoes (prepared in advance or homemade)
- 2 tbsp butter (optional)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella, optional)
Instructions
- Begin by heating a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain excess fat if necessary. Toss in the diced onions and minced garlic, sautéing until fragrant. Stir in the mixed vegetables, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender and flavors meld.
- Once cooked, taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread the cooked meat mixture evenly in a casserole dish. Carefully top with a layer of mashed potatoes, spreading it smoothly. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the potatoes if desired, and dot with small bits of butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until bubbling and golden. Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy this hearty shepherd’s pie that everyone will love.
