Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup Italian-seasoned bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Flatten the chicken breasts to an even thickness and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Set up three shallow bowls with flour, beaten eggs, and a mixture of bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, then eggs, then coat with the breadcrumb mixture.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the breaded chicken for 3-4 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Transfer to a baking dish.
- Spoon marinara sauce over each chicken, then top with shredded mozzarella and extra Parmesan if desired. Optionally add panko breadcrumbs on top for extra crispiness.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until cheese bubbles and chicken reaches 165°F (74°C). Let rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a healthier version, use baked chicken or low-fat cheese options.
- Ensure chicken is evenly flattened for consistent cooking.
- You can prepare the sauce in advance for quick assembly.
