  • Total Time: 45 mins
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional for thickening)

For the creamy mashed potatoes:

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup milk or heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef or turkey, bread crumbs, Parmesan, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into evenly sized meatballs. Heat a skillet over medium heat with a little oil and cook the meatballs until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. In the same skillet, pour in beef or vegetable broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Bring to a simmer, scraping up browned bits. If desired, dissolve cornstarch in water and add to thicken the sauce. Cook until slightly thickened.
  4. Serve cooked meatballs with sauce spooned over. Meanwhile, prepare mashed potatoes by boiling peeled and cubed potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15 minutes.
  5. Drain potatoes and add butter, milk or cream, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy. Optionally, stir in sour cream or herbs for extra flavor.

Notes

  • Feel free to substitute ground beef with ground turkey or plant-based options for vegetarian version.
  • Adding a splash of milk or butter when reheating mashed potatoes keeps them creamy and moist.
  • Adjust seasoning in the meat mixture to suit your taste preferences.
