Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 3/4 cup cold buttermilk
- 8 slices of your favorite ham
- Optional: Cheese slices, eggs, condiments for customization
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut the cold butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Create a well in the center and add cold buttermilk, stirring gently until just combined.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface, pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle, and fold it into thirds twice to create layers.
- Roll out to about 3/4 inch thickness and cut out biscuits with a 2.5-inch cutter, placing them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C), brush biscuits with melted butter or buttermilk, and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Once cooled, slice biscuits in half, stack ham in the middle, add toppings, and serve immediately.
Notes
- Keep butter and buttermilk cold for flaky layers.
- Avoid overmixing the dough to prevent tough biscuits.
- Use a sharp cutter for the best biscuit rise.
- Bake in a hot oven for optimal results.
