Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup of coconut sugar or natural sweetener
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup of coconut milk or almond milk
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil or olive oil
- Optional: a pinch of salt
- For coating: cinnamon sugar mixture or a sprinkle of powdered cocoa
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, coconut sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Add the coconut milk and vanilla extract. Mix well until a smooth dough forms. Incorporate the coconut or olive oil for better texture and flavor.
- Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Roll it out to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut into bite-sized strips or small rectangles, or pipe through a star tip if preferred.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the basket with cooking spray. Arrange the churro bites in a single layer, ensuring they don’t touch. Cook for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
- Remove from the air fryer and toss immediately in cinnamon sugar or dust with powdered cocoa. For extra indulgence, drizzle with melted dark chocolate or sugar-free caramel sauce.
Notes
- Make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket for even cooking and maximum crispiness.
- You can substitute plant-based milk to make these bites vegan.
- Reheat leftovers in the air fryer for a few minutes to restore crunchiness.
