- 4 large onions, sliced

Instructions
- Heat the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add sliced onions and stir frequently until caramelized for about 30 minutes.
- Add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper to the pot. Bring to a gentle boil, then simmer for at least 20 minutes.
- Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Serve immediately or store in freezer-safe containers for later use.
- For serving, ladle soup into oven-safe bowls, top with toasted bread cubes, and sprinkle with Gruyère cheese. Broil until cheese is bubbly and golden.
