Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 4 large potatoes, sliced
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)
- 1 cup beef broth or water
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Start by washing and slicing the potatoes into thin, even pieces for quick cooking. Chop the onion and mince the garlic.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet or ovenproof pan over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the beef in the skillet. Cook until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
- Arrange the sliced potatoes evenly over the cooked beef mixture in the skillet. Season lightly with salt and pepper. Pour beef broth or water over the layered ingredients.
- Cover the skillet with a lid or foil and simmer on low heat for 25-30 minutes, or until potatoes are tender. Alternatively, bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 30-35 minutes.
- If desired, sprinkle shredded cheese on top during the last 5 minutes of baking or simmering until melted. Serve hot with side dishes.
Notes
- For added flavor, try adding vegetables like carrots or peas.
- Use your favorite cheese such as cheddar or Monterey Jack.
- Adjust spices according to your taste for a spicier version.
