Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1/4 cup ice-cold water
- 1 cup fruit preserves or homemade fruit filling (e.g., apple, cherry, berry)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Optional: powdered sugar for garnish
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Add the cold cubed butter and cut in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice-cold water, mixing gently until the dough just comes together. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Remove dough from the fridge and roll out on a floured surface to fit your pie dish. Transfer to the pie dish, trimming excess edges.
- Spread fruit preserves or filling evenly over the crust. If using homemade filling, ensure it is cooled beforehand.
- Cover with a lattice crust or plain strips, sealing edges with water. Brush the top with beaten egg for a shiny finish.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 40-45 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- You can use store-bought pie crust for quicker preparation.
- Try different fruit preserves like peach or apricot for variety.
- Enhance flavor with a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg in the filling.
- This pie can be made gluten-free or vegan with suitable ingredient substitutions.
