Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- ½ cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ½ cup French fried onions
- Optional toppings: shredded cheese, bacon bits, crispy fried jalapeños
Instructions
- Blanch the green beans in boiling salted water for about 5 minutes until crisp-tender. Drain and set aside.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat, add chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- In a large bowl, combine the blanched green beans, sautéed onions and garlic, cream of mushroom soup, and milk. Season with salt and pepper, mixing well.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, sprinkle with French fried onions and any optional toppings. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
Notes
- For extra flavor, use fresh mushrooms sautéed with the onions and garlic.
- Add soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce to the mixture for depth.
- Experiment with different cheeses for the topping.
- Use half-and-half for a creamier texture instead of milk.
- Add red pepper flakes or diced jalapeños for a spicy kick.
