This recipe combines hearty meat, melty cheese, sautéed peppers, and savory seasonings to create a satisfying meal that everyone will love.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork (or substitute with all beef or turkey)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • Ketchup or BBQ sauce (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef and pork. Add breadcrumbs, chopped onion, bell peppers, garlic, and sliced mushrooms if using. Mix well to evenly distribute all ingredients.
  2. Add Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, oregano, pepper, and salt. Mix until well incorporated. Reserve half of the shredded cheese and set aside. Incorporate the remaining cheese into the meat mixture for a melty inside.
  3. Transfer the meat mixture to a loaf pan or shape into a baking dish. Smooth the top and press the remaining cheese on top for a gooey crust.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 50-60 minutes. In the last 10 minutes, spread ketchup or BBQ sauce on top for a flavorful glaze.
  5. Allow the meatloaf to rest for 10 minutes before slicing. This ensures juices settle, making each slice tender and moist.

Notes

  • Use high-quality meat for juicier results.
  • Experiment with different cheese varieties like provolone, Swiss, or pepper jack.
  • Add hot sauce or diced pickles for a tangy twist.
  • Serve with warm hoagie rolls for a Philly-inspired presentation.
