Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
- 4 slices bacon, diced
- 1 small onion, chopped (optional)
- 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
- 1/2 cup chicken broth (or water)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: Red pepper flakes, smoked paprika, or a splash of apple cider vinegar
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the diced bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the rendered bacon fat in the skillet.
- Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet with the bacon fat. Stir to coat the green beans in the fat.
- Pour in the chicken broth (or water), bring to a simmer, and cover the skillet. Cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the green beans are tender-crisp. Season with salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings.
- Return the cooked bacon to the skillet and stir to combine. Cook for another minute or two. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
- Use fresh, crisp green beans for the best texture and flavor.
- Don’t overcrowd the skillet; cook in batches if necessary to ensure even cooking.
- For a smokier flavor, use smoked bacon or add a dash of smoked paprika.
- If you prefer softer green beans, cook them longer.
- A splash of apple cider vinegar at the end adds a bright flavor.
