Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 lbs ground beef
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper, then form into 4-6 patties.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, then cook the hamburger steaks for 3-4 minutes per side. Add sliced onions and cook until softened and caramelized.
- Sprinkle flour over the leftover oil and onion residue, whisking for 1-2 minutes. Gradually add beef broth while whisking to prevent lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce and simmer until thickened.
- Return hamburger steaks and onions to the skillet with gravy, spoon gravy over them, and simmer for another 2-3 minutes. Serve hot.
Notes
- Use 80/20 ground beef for better flavor and juiciness.
- Avoid overmixing the beef mixture to keep the steaks tender.
- Ensure skillet is hot for a good sear when cooking the steaks.
- Consider using bone broth for richer gravy flavor.
- Add red wine to the gravy for extra depth.
