Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups packed brown sugar (light or dark)
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- Optional: 1 cup chocolate chips or chopped nuts
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Use a cookie scoop or spoon to portion the dough onto a lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers remain soft.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
Notes
- Use room-temperature ingredients for even mixing and a smooth dough.
- Don’t overbake—the cookies will continue to set as they cool.
- Add mix-ins like chocolate chips, nuts, or a sprinkle of sea salt for extra flavor.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or freeze for longer storage.
