  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 6 candy apples

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large fresh apples (preferably Fuji or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • White food coloring (gel preferred for vivid whiteness)
  • Edible glitter or shimmer dust (for that sparkling effect)
  • Cooking spray or parchment paper for the baking sheet

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Remove the stems and insert skewers into the core of each apple. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly spray with cooking spray.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and cream of tartar. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and white food coloring.
  3. Dip each apple carefully into the hot candy mixture, swirling to coat evenly. Lift and let excess drip off. Immediately sprinkle with edible shimmer dust or glitter for a sparkling finish.
  4. Place coated apples on the prepared baking sheet and let harden and cool completely before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure apples are completely dry for proper coating adhesion.
  • Work quickly once the candy reaches the hard crack stage to prevent crystallization.
  • Use vibrant white gel food coloring for best visual impact.
  • Apply edible glitter while the coating is still warm for better adherence.
