Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring: black and red (to create the eerie “upside-down” effect)
- White chocolate chips or mini marshmallows (for extra spooky touches)
Instructions
- Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. Set aside.
- Beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Divide the dough into two portions. Color one with black food coloring and the other with red.
- Scoop spoonfuls of each colored dough onto the prepared baking sheet, swirling or layering for a chaotic upside-down effect.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes. Let cookies cool on a wire rack before decorating.
- Add white chocolate chips or mini marshmallows and use edible food markers to draw cracks or symbols for a spooky Stranger Things theme.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- For longer storage, refrigerate for up to a week or freeze for up to a month.
- Decorate with edible glitter or themed candies for extra spooky effects.
