Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large apples (preferably tart, such as Granny Smith or Braeburn)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
Instructions
- Start by peeling and coring the apples. Slice them thinly and toss with a teaspoon of cinnamon and a tablespoon of sugar. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture until just combined.
- Pour the batter into a greased 9-inch springform pan. Arrange apple slices evenly on top, pressing slightly into the batter.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 40-45 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
- Allow the cake to cool briefly. Dust with powdered sugar if desired, then serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
Notes
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith to enhance the flavor balance.
- Adjust spices to suit your taste preferences.
- For added crunch, mix in chopped nuts or dried fruits.
- Keep an eye on the cake during the last few minutes of baking to prevent over-browning.
