  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1/4 cup diced bell peppers or jalapeños for extra spice

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground meat, bread crumbs, chopped onions, eggs, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until evenly incorporated.
  2. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a greased baking dish or loaf pan.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together ketchup, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, chili powder, and cayenne pepper. Spread half of the glaze over the top of the meatloaf.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the meatloaf for 45–55 minutes, basting with the remaining glaze during the last 15 minutes.
  5. Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing to allow the juices to redistribute.
  6. Serve slices with your favorite sides and enjoy the flavorful sweet and spicy kick!

Notes

  • Adjust the cayenne pepper according to your spice preference.
  • For a crispier crust, broil the meatloaf for the last 2–3 minutes.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
