Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Optional: 1/4 cup diced bell peppers or jalapeños for extra spice
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground meat, bread crumbs, chopped onions, eggs, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until evenly incorporated.
- Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a greased baking dish or loaf pan.
- In a small bowl, whisk together ketchup, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, chili powder, and cayenne pepper. Spread half of the glaze over the top of the meatloaf.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the meatloaf for 45–55 minutes, basting with the remaining glaze during the last 15 minutes.
- Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing to allow the juices to redistribute.
- Serve slices with your favorite sides and enjoy the flavorful sweet and spicy kick!
Notes
- Adjust the cayenne pepper according to your spice preference.
- For a crispier crust, broil the meatloaf for the last 2–3 minutes.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
