Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef beef
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For the bourbon glaze:
- 1/2 cup bourbon
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, milk, eggs, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well-incorporated. Shape into a loaf and place in a baking dish or on a lined baking sheet.
- In a small saucepan, mix bourbon, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 5-7 minutes until the glaze slightly thickens. Remove from heat.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the meatloaf for 45 minutes. After 30 minutes, brush generously with bourbon glaze. Continue baking and glazing every 10 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes once out of the oven. Slice and drizzle with more glaze if desired for extra flavor and moisture.
Notes
- Use a high-quality bourbon for the best flavor.
- For a sweeter glaze, add an extra touch of brown sugar.
- Avoid overmixing the meat mixture to keep the meatloaf tender.
- Use a meat thermometer for perfect doneness and safety.
