- 1 ½ pounds ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup ketchup, plus extra for topping
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: chopped fresh parsley or herbs for garnish
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Transfer the mixture into a loaf pan or shape into a loaf on a lined baking sheet. Spread ketchup on top for a glaze.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for approximately 50-60 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Once cooked, remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes before slicing to retain moisture.
- Serve slices with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or your preferred sides.
Notes
- For a gluten-free version, substitute regular breadcrumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs or crushed gluten-free crackers.
- To make it healthier, use lean ground turkey or chicken, and add chopped vegetables like carrots or zucchini into the mixture.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
- Thaw frozen slices overnight in the fridge before reheating.
