- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
- 1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon honey (for boiling water)
- Optional toppings: Cream cheese, smoked salmon, or avocado
Instructions
- Combine warm water and yeast in a large mixing bowl; let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a separate bowl, then gradually add to the yeast mixture until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic; cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Divide dough into 12 pieces and shape into bagels.
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add honey. Boil bagels for 1 minute on each side.
- Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over bagels and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let bagels cool on a wire rack before serving with toppings.
Notes
- Store bagels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- For longer storage, freeze bagels in a zip-top freezer bag for up to 3 months.
- Thaw and toast before serving for best results.
